Thursday's Child

Thursday's child has far to go. Eleven hours, in the case of Isaiah John Woodlief, before he emerged mewling and wiggling, a "stunned peck of flesh," as Galway Kinnell wrote, into the world. He weighs eight pounds and one ounce, and is 19 inches long. His mother was courageous throughout, though his father whimpered like a baby and almost threw up at a critical point. All the Woodlief boys are happy to have a new little one in the house.

Welcome to this broken earth, Isaiah John. May it be better for your breathing its air and trodding its soil.

Hooray! In the Desert of the Real, I send up a flare of joy!

Welcome, little Isaiah. May you be as brave and courageous as your two namesakes. :)

I kiss your little forehead, very, very lightly, and I breathe a blessing over your soft little head.

I am so happy for all of you!

Four sons! Will you still have hair at 60?

Welcome Isaiah John. God richly bless you beyond your blessings to enter this family.

Congratulations! Although I would hardly refer to little Isaiah as a "peck"--eight pounds sounds more like two quarts at most. But I guess a "stunned half-gallon of flesh" doesn't have quite the ring to it. I hope he'll be a "good" baby and start sleeping throught the night at two weeks!

Welcome baby Isaiah, and congrats to the Woodlief family. Well done!

May there be peace flowing to you like a river.

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

Welcome, Isaiah! And watch that first step; it's a doosey. God bless!

One more thing. I just ordered five of your books! and can't wait to start reading the E-book today! I e-mailed all my friends to give them the good news!

Posted by: Jim Ratajski at June 22, 2007 8:29 AM

Congratulations! Hooray for all the handsome Woodlief boys!

Posted by: Jordana at June 22, 2007 11:00 AM

Congratulations, and what a welcome addition to the Woodliefs! It won't be too long until you get to sleep through the night again.

Hmmm, Zeke or Izzy? Maybe you can just give him a good-ol'-boy nickname like Skeeter or Bubba.

Lovely news - congratulations!

When you called yesterday to tell me about my newest grandchild, I told everyone I know. Then, it struck me that I had not read the Book of Isaiah in years. I began reading yesterday afternoon. I had forgot how powerful it was. The poetic flow is magnificent. What a great name you chose for your little one. (Actually, all your young men have great names.)Congratulations and give Celeste a hug and kiss from me.

Wooo!! Congratulations! Will you stick with your 'trend' and call him by his middle name?

Posted by: Danielle at June 22, 2007 10:46 PM

Congratulations to the Woodlief family and Welcome to the world, little Isaiah! You have joined one entertaining, heartwarming family!

And I, personally, look forward to the stories your dad will write of your growing up adventures as you make your mark in your family! :)

Posted by: Rachel at June 25, 2007 10:29 AM

Hooray! Another wild boy--how blest are you!
As for Protestant prose...I've always been impressed by the prolific production of Charles Wesley--some 250 poems put to music for hymns.

"And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain—
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?"

May you be amazed by this newest blessing.
