Dreamy Debby

I've added a link to my "Blogs I Dig" site. It was inspired by Asparagirl's musing over what happened to the young lady who played girl-geek Jordan in Real Genius.

This got me thinking about that chick Julie, who is truly dazzling.

(Editor's Note: There are two kinds of people in the world: those who think Valley Girl is one of the greatest movies of all time, and those who do not understand life. If you are in the latter group, feel free to stop reading. If you haven't yet seen Valley Girl, go rent it. Now.)

I'm speaking, of course, of the lovely and talented Deborah Lynn Foreman, whose cameo role in Real Genius was the highlight of the film, and who with Val Kilmer had one of the funniest guy-girl exchanges I've ever seen.

(Second Editor's Note: Sand in the Gears is a free speech zone on most occasions. However, anyone posting derogatory comments about Deborah will have his IP address blocked, but only after I use it to track him down in order to deliver a sound thrashing. You can belittle my political beliefs, but not my Valley Girl.)

So, I did some checking, and it turns out that Debby has her own website. She still does a little acting here and there, along with graphic design, and some lovely hand-painted furniture work. Yay Debby. I'm watching Valley Girl again tonight.

And by the way, it really should be on DVD. Help make it happen.

...I don't make a fuss about movies or actors, rarely go to a theatre or even watch much TV (too busy perusing the blogs). However, I would never miss seeing My Chauffeur again, after three times, just to see that lovely Deborah. Now, thanks to you, I will have to seek out Valley Girl et al just to see her class act again. Lovely and talented, er, umm, guess I'm preaching to the choir here. Thanks for the wake up.

PS..come to San Diego and stir up that airport bunch.

I was in L.A. about a decade ago on business, and took a little extra time to visit my brother. One night I helped roadie his band to a place called The Central on Sunset Strip; this is the same place Plimsouls were playing in Valley Girl. Did I mention I'm a fan, too? It gave me goosebumps, a little.

That said, The Central is/was a pit. Kind of like in the movie.

I have always told people that VG was my favorite angst movie ever. Mostly because I thought Nick Cage was hot. Overbite and all. However, over the last several years, while I will always regard that movie with fondness, Nick's star has dimmed. I mean come on. Con Air and wedded to Elvis' daughter?

Nick Cage was merely a foil against which Debby was able to showcase her prodigious talents. The fact that his acting career has been more lucrative is merely a testimony to the vicissitudes of show business.

I've only seen Debbie in Real Genius and Waxworks (and about the 1st ten minutes of VG which I saw on late nite TV before zoning out).

Thought she was incredible in Waxwork and couldn't believe I didn't see more of her.

I remember I saw the first 5 minutes or so of the Waxwork sequel, verified that Sarah was not played by Debbie, ergo I shouldn't wasre my time with it.
