Stimulating
Last night I read Dorothy Sayers's essay, "Why Work?", and came across this thought, which puts me in mind of the recent federal Economic Stimulus Payment (which, if anyone from the IRS is reading, I still have yet to receive):
A society in which consumption has to be artificially stimulated in order to keep production going is a society founded on trash and waste, and such a society is a house built upon sand.
Or you could consider Dave Barry's assessment of the situation. (HT: Lori M.)

Good grief that woman was something else! In the dictionary next to the word "polymath" there should be a picture of her!

I completely agree. I told the guy when I bought tires Wednesday, that if all the service people in America had the courage to quit working for a month and go on welfare, things would change. Maybe not, but it is the same line of thinking.

I didn't know who D.S. was, but thanks Tony, I will now.
As for the 'stimulus' payment, it may be phony and wrong on a number of levels, but at the same time, it's still our money back in our hands. That counts for something.
