I was going to write that the bullet was dodged, but perhaps it is closer to true, in these situations, to say that a bullet is deflected. Either way, it feels good to breathe.

Deflecting bullets makes me think of Wonder Woman with her fancy bracelets that she could hold up to deflect whatever harmful object was flying her way. How I wish I had something that easy, that consistently effective, to deflect those things that seek to harm me and my family.

When I have a day before the firing squad--and there've been quite a few--and I survive, I envision somebody who holds up his hands in front of the shooters and says, "Shoot this way, not at her." And they do, and I'm saved. And I see that his hands are nail-scarred.
