Prayers

For Caleb, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. He knew I'd be home this morning, so he decided to lobby God during last night's bedtime prayers:

"...and Lord, thank you for all the wonderful things you give us..."

"And please give us eggs, and bacon..."

"...thank you for our home, and our family..."

"...and pancakes, with syrup..."

"...and for my job, and for your love for us..."

"...and cranapple juice, and we can eat it when we get up..."

"...please forgive us, Lord, when we are selfish..."

"...and give us a g-o-o-o-o-o-d breakfast tomorrow. A-a-a-a-men."

I'm sure the good Lord has heard worse prayers.

Oh, the Lord has heard much worse prayers...but none more honest!! So Tony, did you cook or go to Denny's or IHOP?

Worse prayers!? I don't think I've ever heard a prayer with a more open and honest heart and appreciation for what God has given!
Yea, Caleb! Show 'em how it's done, buddy!

Tom,
Denny's? May I be brought up on charges of child abuse. Yesterday morning was pancakes. This morning is eggs, grits (yes, my dear son asked for grits -- I'm so proud), and bacon, the last cooked in an iron skillet.

Now don't you all wish you lived near me?

Ohhhh yeah... few things in life are better than grits cooked in an iron skillet. I'm calling Mom!

Mmmm... grits...

Posted by: Andrea Harris at April 16, 2003 3:39 AM

eeww, I missed something. It's the bacon cooked in the iron skillet right? Not the grits. Please say it's not the grits. Cause those grits better have been buttered and sweetened or I'll bring you up on child abuse charges myself. ;)

No, the grits were not cooked in the skillet. But some people cook them that way. We don't sweeten ours with anything but real butter. It's okay if you use something sweeter. I'm a big-tent person when it comes to grits. If you eat 'em, I like you. If not, well, if by some accident you make it into heaven, you are in for a rude surprise.

Or did you think manna was something else?

I must confess t hat not being a Southerner, I am a realtive newcomer to the wonders of grits- i like them with a dash of butter and tabasco!!(That is my Indian genes speaking!!) I caint find me a place here in town (Ann Arbor) that serves grits, and ocassionally, I must confess, I have even eaten instant grits( like just a few minutes back.) Like Joe Pesci asked- how do y'all like your grits? Regular, creamy or al-Dente?
BTW, what is a good brand of grits you all would recommend, that might be found in Yankee land?
